Sr. Angela

My name is Angela Marici, usually called Sister Angela. I come from Ende, on Flores Island in Indonesia, and I grew up in Bali. My hobbies are reading books, listening to music, and watching movies. I am the fifth of six children. I am a nun and have been one for about 20 years.

I currently serve as the JPIC (Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation) Coordinator. I take sides with the poor and oppressed, assist women and children, and care for the environment.

In 2013, I moved to the Philippines and spent a year working at a school in the Sariaya Quezon district. There, I joined a team assisting children whose parents divorced. Many of these children came from poor families and had to work hard to help their mothers meet daily needs while struggling to stay in school. In this place, children were guided to make peace with their situations. Monthly spiritual guidance helped them, especially those with troubled homes, to learn to forgive their parents and heal from their past. I learned many things there – how people live and grow together through small, simple acts and support one another as one big family.

In 2014, I returned to Indonesia and joined a team that assisted victims of human trafficking. Most of the victims had experienced deep trauma. We helped them through the recovery process and eventually supported their return to their families.

In 2015, I moved to Poland, Central Europe. For eight years, I worked mostly with young people and children. I was part of a team providing spiritual guidance, and we also offered services for the elderly and the sick.

Every weekend, we held programs for junior high, high school, and college students, as well as for young professionals who were still single. Together, we shared stories, learned, prayed, spent time in nature, and played games. This youth community was vital in helping young Europeans find a sense of belonging and brotherhood – an important support against the dangers of loneliness and despair in a secular and individualistic society.

By joining the Regional Justice and Peace Training, I hope to expand my friendships and continue collaborating with Friends Peace Teams, who always support and encourage participation in these meaningful activities.
