Power of Goodness Facilitators Gathering,Peace Place Pati, Central Java-Indonesia
I am grateful for the opportunity to attend the 2025 Regional Justice and Peace Training in Peace Place Pati. This is my third time going to Peace Place and second time facilitating with strong, young facilitators. Every year I gain new experiences, new friends, and new insights.
Being a good facilitator isn’t only about giving instructions. It’s about understanding the tools and practicing them in daily life. It’s not about how long you’ve been a facilitator, but whether you’re using the ideas and the tools regularly. It’s like an art, a sport, or an instrument. Practice is what matters, and along the way we discover various creative approaches.
The Picture Sharing exercise has been refined and changed. I had to re-read and understand it. I learned that sometimes we get stuck in our comfort zone and refuse to leave it. It’s like something we love and refuse to let go. But there’s no need to hold onto something as your own truth, when you can gain new insights and approaches.
For a just, peaceful life, we must humbly let go of our egos for the common good, and be open to other people’s ideas, perspectives, or anything new, which may be different, but good for myself and everyone else. This new version of Picture Sharing helped me learn not to force others to follow our decisions or simply agree with the group, but to seek fair decisions for everyone without getting defensive. It also helped me learn how to build and maintain relationships. I can recognize my own gifts and preferences while still recognizing the abilities of others. It’s a new way to listen to others. We can give and receive and be changed by what we learn, without feeling hurt or hurting others.
Each year I learn new things. Attending the Regional Training this year gave me a chance to focus on how to organize this complex, global training, which I hope to host in Papua in January 2026. I’m very excited about that opportunity, but I also have concerns about the high costs of renting a training hall and accommodations for friends coming from outside Papua. We hope the 2026 Justice and Peace Training in Papua can happen, go well, and leave a lasting message for Papua that there is still hope to end the violence. Even though it’s not yet visible, the seeds are growing. Together we can strengthen the skills we need to call for and build a just, peaceful Papuan civil society.
Thank you to everyone, everywhere who has faithfully supported us.
God bless.
