With some of my friends during the trainning of Assessesment of Survivor Outcomes
My name is Sr. Yuliana, FMM. I am a Roman Catholic nun, a member of the Congregation of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM). I am living in Jakarta, as secretary of the Indonesian sector of the FMM Congregation, coordinator of the communication team and Justice Peace Integrity of Creation (JPIC). I am a Catholic secondary school teacher by profession. Due to the needs of the congregation, since completing my bachelor’s degree in education in Manila, Philippines, I have been in charge of teaching core values in kindergarten and primary schools in Jambi (Indonesia) and pastoral care. I moved to Jakarta for my current assignment in 2022.
As coordinator of the communication team, I coordinate the sisters in charge of pastoral care through social media so that whatever is shared through social media is in line with Christian values and FMM values.
As coordinator of the JPIC team, I participate in seminars and trainings to prevent exploitation and violence and to teach how to assist the victims. Together with the JPIC Team from Franciscan Congregations and Talitha Kum (The organization of the Roman Catholic Nuns dealing with the issue of human trafficking), I am involved in activating youth to prevent Human Trafficking especially in schools and universities and with Catholic Youth.
I have joined the Laudato Si Movement Indonesia. I encourage the sisters and students in our school to be involved in ecological activities. The sisters in the Community like to plant trees, vegetables, ornamental plants and in the garden and on the convent grounds. We try to separate organic and non-organic waste to process the organic waste into fertilizer and recycle the non-organics.
We strive to live in peace and love in the sisters’ community through regular prayer, and knowing, understanding and supporting each other. This experience of love and sisterhood helps me be faithful to my commitment as a nun and to share love with those I meet and serve. The joy, hope and love that radiates from those I serve, especially the children, young people, the simple and sick, and families who need help, give me great joy.
I hope that by attending this Asian Training of Justice and Peace will broaden my horizons and knowledge, especially in serving the poor and weak. I thank the Almighty for this valuable opportunity to learn from others of different backgrounds in religion, education, age, profession and experience. I wish peace and all good to all of us participants and the teams who organize this activity.
