On Sunday, 10 September 2023, two members of the Power of Goodness Pati team (Farid and Risa) carried out a KKN (Real Work Lecture) program from IAIN University in Blora. One of the programs they (Farid and Risa) carried out is mentoring young people from Sambongrejo village and Kodokan village. In the morning, we carried out activities in Kodokan village with 25 children aged 11-16 years and 20 university students. We took the theme of friendship with a new story about New Girls in School. The children were active participants in the activities. They enjoyed the stories we read together. We learned about how to bring out the good in ourselves and the good in others. They were able to mention the good things they have, such as taking friends home, playing together and sharing food. We also learned about how to deal with bullying in the school environment. We agreed to practice bringing out the good in people who bully. This is interesting, because it is difficult for us to name it. But after we stop first and the atmosphere calms down, we are able to mention one or two good things about the friend who is bullying, one of which is that when playing we want to play together.
After that, in the afternoon we moved to Sambongrejo village. We practiced with 15 high school children and 20 university students with the theme of bringing out the good and we read the story of Anna and Speckled Hen. At first the situation was a little awkward because it was the first meeting for the children there and because they have rarely had any interaction with activities together. We started by singing together to lighten the mood. The boarding house (kos-kosan) game made us closer. We discussed bringing out the good in ourselves and others. During large group discussions, we agreed to practice bringing out the good in others and ourselves. After that we did the good adjectives activity. Before starting we tried stopping to calm down. This makes it easier to find good words that start with the first letter of our respective names. When reflecting, one of the children said that at first it was difficult to come up with a good adjective but when he stopped first to calm down, it was easier to find good words.
Today I learned and was reminded again to stop first before doing an activity so that I can focus while doing the activity. Also,I have to practice often to bring out the good things. I have to reward myself. This is very important for psychological health.
