Dear friends, initiating a learning process that considers the power of love and conscience and involves children, teachers, parents, grandparents and caregivers has a positive impact on children’s development. They grow up cheerful, independent, confident, and able to think critically. The parent community shares strength to support each other. Families strive to build an environment of mutual respect and practice the values of life. The journey is full of challenges but continues.
One of the basic principles of education at Joglo is Bhineka Tunggal Ika (meaning Different but Still One), is Indonesia’s national motto that upholds the dignity of every person and values the creativity of every culture, language and local ecology. Joglo strives to be consistent in its steps and tries to define how to build values, ethics and morals to develop human capabilities with character. It’s a long way off, but we keep trying.
Ki Hajar Dewantara, an activist of the Indonesian independence movement, the nation’s teacher and a pioneer of education for indigenous Indonesians wrote that “Education is an effort to advance the growth of character (inner strength, character), mind (intellect), and body of children. These parts must not be separated so that we can advance the perfection of our children’s lives”. I am bringing myself to continue to learn to improve and direct myself to achieve it through education at Joglo.
The practice of early years activities can have a good impact on behavior, such as softening behavior that was initially rude, indifferent and uncaring. The activity begins with an exploration of greeting and building friendships. We become friendly with humans and the surrounding nature as the creation of the Almighty God. Next, we proceed with building agreements to live together peacefully, to seek and bring out goodness, to build patterns of self care, to recognize great inner strength to make changes and be open to them, and to establish communication and collaboration. At the end of the theme, an exhibition of children’s work is organized. The life values instilled continue to be deepened and expanded in subsequent years.
Happy New Year 2025 and coloring the days with hope, joy, passion and love.
