I was very happy and excited when the school principal Miftahul Huda (Mr. Sunhadi) asked Power of Goodness to be part of assisting the children there. Starting September 15, I have worked with the children at the school on Thursdays and Saturdays from 08.00-11.30 AM. Every Thursday, I work with class 3 (15 children) and class 4 (15 children). On Saturdays I work with grade 1 (15 children) and grade 2 (15 children).

These children really enjoy the Power of Goodness activities and consistently participate from start to finish every time we do the activities. This month, I used the theme of “Friendship and Bringing Out the Good” by combining story reading with time for play afterwards. Each class practiced being a good listener and a good speaker. The children easily understood how to be a good listener and to be a good speaker, and agreed to practice both. Later I saw from their reactions and reports that these skills are difficult to practice beca

  • “Which ones have been practiced?”
  • “Which ones are difficult to practice”?
  • “Why is this difficult”?

We agreed to continue practicing and evaluating when we meet.

The children were also very interested in each Power of Goodness story, and before each session started, always asked before the activity started, and also asked what they were going to play today. This is part of the attraction for children to consistently participate in activities. Children can comment on the story. Like when we read New Girl at School, we reflected that we want to play with any friends and not choose friends. This is what the children will continue to practice.

After completing the activity, Mr. Sunhadi and I always evaluate what to pay attention to and what needs to be improved. Like trying to find a fan for the room, because it feels hot during activities. Mr. Sunhadi has also provided water and put it on the table for children to take at any time. I am very happy with this new experience. I also force myself to be more creative when I’m with my children and can be an example when doing activities with them.
